Fundamental Principles of Learning

Pengantar :

Untuk sementara ini ke depan kita akan mempelajari bahasa Inggris dengan cara membaca, menyimak, dan memahami bahan ajar berupa teks bacaan. Selanjutnya kita berlatih untuk mengelompokkan setiap “parts of speech” yang ada pada teks dengan menggarisbawahi mana yang termasuk kelompok “Noun”, “Pronoun” ………dan seterusnya, sekaligus berlatih memahami bentuk-bentuk kalimat (Sentences) yang ada pada teks tersebut.

Untuk bagian pertama, marilah kita berlatih untuk menggariabawahi kata-kata yang terdapat pada teks berikut ini yang tergolong ke dalam kelompok “Noun” (Kata Benda) dan “Pronoun” (Kata Ganti Benda), coba Saudara lakukan dengan teliti ! Selamat belajar dan mencoba  !

 

 

Article 1

FUNDAMENTAL PRINCIPLES OF LEARNING

 

By learning we will add our knowledge, it changes our behavior, and our sight of life. To deepen our understanding to learning process, we have to introduce our selves to fundamental principle of learnining.

 

Fundamental principle of learning is a basic fundament to understand what principles are included in ‘understanding learning.’ There are at least four principles of learning : (a) learning is developing, (b) learning is thinking process, (c) learning is an active process, and (d) learning involves making decisions. (Hutchinson in Chamberlain, 1998 adopted by Sudiyono, 2002). The exlpaination of each fundamental principles of learning is as follow :

 

  1. Learning is developing, by learning we can make change in our life. We change our knowledge, our behavior, and our sight of life. We will know something that we didn’t know before, we understand something that we didn’t understand before.
  2. Learning is thinking process, it is not enough for teachers to give their leaners only the needed knowledge, but learners must have the ability to use their knowledge. In this case, it has two implications, material and methodology. Material, teacher have to make their learners aware of what they know and how to use their language. Task and activities should oblige learners to think and to use their activities.
  3. Learning is an active process, there are two different activities; Psycho-motor activity, i.e. movement of hands, eyes or mouth to produce or receive communication signals. Processing activity, i.e. activity in the brain whereby the learners try to make meaningful what is heard, read, spoken or written.
  4. Learning involves making decisions, learner is seen as a thinker, this implicates that the learner shoud be the decision maker. Task and activity shoud, therefore, give the learner the opportunity to make decisions.

 

From text above we can make a conclusion that learning will make change in our life, it needs process of thinking and process of activities, further it will train learners to be  decision makers.
